Start with the artwork you remember: the original starter evolutions, familiar Kanto faces and a binder page that feels like the beginning of an adventure. Pick one favourite Pokémon, then build outward.
Pokémon Jungle
Try an artwork-led page: a favourite Eevee evolution, a sleepy Snorlax, or a parade of smaller Pokémon. A collection does not have to begin with the most expensive card.

Choose a Gym Leader and follow their Pokémon across the cards. A trainer-focused page gives even small, inexpensive cards a place in a much larger story.

Three Japanese Expansion Sheet series arrived in 1998. Cards were peeled from sheets dispensed by machines, creating a different collecting experience from opening booster packs.
Southern Islands
A small 1999 collection with 18 cards and linked tropical artwork. Consider collecting a scene rather than chasing a single headline Pokémon.
Gym decks and promotional cards
Booster expansions are only part of the story. Keep deck cards, magazine inserts, event cards and other promotional releases on their own checklists. Record the exact release rather than grouping every old Japanese card into one set.
